The Komatsu HM400-3 often travels fully loaded, with loads up to 40 tons. All of this weight is ultimately transferred to the ground through the rims and tires. Therefore, the rims must be strong enough to withstand the tremendous vertical pressure, lateral impacts, and torque generated when driving over rough roads. If the rims are not strong enough, they can deform, crack, or even break under heavy pressure, leading to serious accidents. Our materials undergo a heat treatment process to enhance the toughness and strength of the rims, ensuring they retain their shape even under long-term heavy-load operation.
The Komatsu HM400-3 often operates in muddy, slippery, and rocky environments, requiring relatively low tire pressure to enhance grip. Under these low-pressure, heavy-load, and high-torque conditions, the tire bead can easily separate from the rim. To prevent this, we designed a 5-piece, multi-piece rim. This design consists of a rim base, a removable retaining ring, and a locking ring. The locking ring securely secures the tire bead to the rim, ensuring it remains in place even under extreme torque or low pressure, significantly improving operational safety.
When driving downhill or when braking frequently, the brake system generates significant heat. Because the rim is directly connected to the brake drum or disc, it also acts as a significant heat sink. Our rims are typically designed with a special structure to help heat dissipate quickly from the brake system, preventing overheating and performance degradation, and ensuring reliable braking.
